We have an amazing problem – we have more potential pet therapy volunteer teams than we can screen! That’s where you can help, we are looking to train more pet screeners this March to help with our future volunteer intake cycles. Our pet screeners are a crucial part of our team and without their honest assessment, we wouldn’t be able to find pets that are the right fit to provide pet therapy.

We ask that all our pet screeners are willing to commit to a minimum of one date per intake cycle (3 times a year) to conduct pet screenings. We provide the venue and the props, you provide your assessment! Our hope is to expand our pet screening locations across the Lower Mainland to reach more of our prospective volunteers, so as long as you live in the Lower Mainland, your location doesn’t matter.

The right person needs to:

  • Be familiar interacting with dogs, cats and rabbits,
  • Be fine working with technology (filling out pdf forms),
  • and be comfortable providing positive constructive feedback on potential pet therapy pets.
  • Experience in any pet training programs would be an asset.

Training consists of:

  • 4 observation pet screenings with one of our trained pet screeners
  • 4 increasingly involved pet screening with one of our trained pet screeners
  • 4 self conducted pet screenings, supervised by one of our trained pet screeners
  • These 12 pet screenings will occur over 2 or 3 different dates
